Study Abroad in Scotland I

So people said I should start a blog, but I thought it would be a waste of time. However, people kept persisting so I decided to write a blog/journal thing of my adventures in Scotland. Well my adventure begins with me actually the day before I actually left for Scotland. I had just finished a phone interview and was looking at my email when my parents told me to go answer the door. Who should be there but the MAIL MAN!!!! No it was not my mail man it was MY Beautiful Girlfriend Jessica Ruth Vernon. She had driven up from Grove City to see me and send me off!!! So that was awesome and that night we went Olive Gardens all you can eat paste which is also awesome so I got to combine two of my favorite things eating and jess. Oh Ps I am a terrible speller and will spell words wrong and apologize, but it is going to happen. So the next day I finished getting everything ready to go got on the plane with the son “Leaving on a Jet plane” stuck in my head. Got on the plane at 4:30 east cost time and landed in Glasgow at 7:15 am their time.

Patrick met me at the airport and we got on a bus that took us to the bus station. Our bus ticket didn’t come for like 2 hours so we went to a pub to get breakfast. Oh yeah from now until we get into St Andrews we are carrying 3 big suitcases that way exactly 50 lbs one carry-on that weighs 30 lbs and two book bags that way 25 lbs. So it was super great carrying them all though the City. Funny Story and I am not made or bitter but I just remembered it and wanted to share it with you. So Patrick had been traveling for 3 weeks before I got there and could only carry his backpack. He was going to ship it overseas but it cost like 1000 dollars so he asked me if I could take his “suitcase” over with me. I said sure obliviously it would be no problem and he was going to have it delivered to me anyway. So Katie’s brother was going to give it to me. When I saw him I wondered why he was carrying this huge create and where Patrick’s suitcase was. Little did I know that the suite case and this giant crate where one and the same. So I took it and it filled the back of my huge backseat in the concord. I wasn’t sure if the airlines would even allow me to bring it and I ended up finding out it would be 350 extra dollars to bring it because it was so over sized and overweight. I have absolutely no idea how we would have carried it either in Scotland so which is why I bought him a big suitcase. Back to my original story so we tumbled though doors of the pub in downtown Glasgow. Trying to blend in and look like local with our 6 cases of luggage. It didn’t work very well. But they were very friendly and kind. We bought ourselves breakfast the made friend with two gentle man. They ended up buying us some drinks and we joked about America and other such things. For pure worthless trivia, if you are ever in Glasgow and someone asks if you want a Glasgow kiss tell them NO. If you say yes they will promptly head butt you in the face.

So we got on the train to Edinburgh and we arrived we had to find our hostel. But we only had the address which didn’t really help us. So we had some point us in the general direction and set off. The city road we extremely crowed and we looked and felt like absolute idiots as we tried to pull our 4 pieces of luggage and 2 backpacks. We eventually found the hostel but it was up 4 stories and 62 stairs on a winding staircase. I know that it was 62 stairs because they thought it was good marketing to number each one of the stairs so you knew how far you had to go. I was thrilled but we eventually made it. We dumped our luggage off their and started exploring Edinburgh it is an extremely beautiful city. All the buildings our something like 8 hundred years old it was awesome. We went to the castle. We went to the cathedral. It was beautiful and the view their were spectacular. We found an old ruin down cemetery. It was falling apart which was sad but most of the tomb stone were like 500 years old somewhere even older. When we went to the castle we got to see the Crown jewels and the weapons they used it was really cool.

On Sunday we took bus from Edinburgh to St Andrews. We took a longer bus that was 3 hours instead of 2 hours because it rode along the coast it was sweet. We got see a lot of really pretty little cities. We made friend with the bus driver so as he was driving he told allot about the cities we were driving though. We went through a city called Kirkcaldy. It was the city Adam Smith was born and I got a picture next to his statue. Herbner would be so jealous; I am going to send him my picture. We got to St Andrews and got moved in. We found an ALDI which is a God sent because it is so cheap. So Patrick and I are just chillin in St Andrews right now. Class start on Monday and we are just slowly exploring the town.

I will tell you about my other roommates next time, because I am tired and I am going to bed.
